Valley Farms takes its inspiration from British Columbia’s fertile Fraser Valley – a landscape defined by gently rolling hills, winding river tributaries, and sprawling wetlands.
Abundant in native waterfowl species, including wild duck, the valley was once a wildlife haven where the Northwestern wolf reigned as a keystone species. Considered the largest subspecies of the North American grey wolf, the Northwestern wolf was known for the vast distances it covered and its essential role in regulating prey populations within the ecosystem. As the region evolved into a premier hub for sustainable agriculture, domesticated chicken and turkey joined duck as hallmarks of the valley's bounty. Throughout this era, farmers relied on dogs for protection and cats for pest control. To honor this unique intersection of wildlife history and agricultural legacy, we selected chicken, turkey, and duck for our Valley Farms formulation – celebrating the Fraser Valley’s evolution into one of Western Canada’s most celebrated sources of premium poultry.
Wild Shores is inspired by the sea wolves that thrive on a marine diet along the rugged coastline of Vancouver Island in the Pacific Northwest – a region known for its pristine ecosystems, ancient rainforests, and bountiful marine life.
Descending from a population of grey wolves who became isolated thousands of years ago, these Coastal wolves adapted to a diet comprised mostly of sea life by developing specialized hunting behaviors and becoming strong swimmers capable of traveling between coastal areas in pursuit of prey. Today, these oceanic waters remain home to an abundance of marine species, highlighted by iconic seasonal events like the autumn salmon run and the early spring herring spawn. In tribute to the Coastal wolves’ remarkable adaptation to this rugged region, we selected cod, salmon, and herring for our Wild Shores formulation – honoring the key marine species these unique hunters’ access along the rocky shoreline.
Open Plains takes its inspiration from the Great Plains – a vast expanse of grasslands stretching across North America, defined by open prairies, diverse ecosystems, and endless horizons.
Once home to massive herds of bison that roamed the range, these sweeping grasslands were historically ruled by the Great Plains wolf, also known as the buffalo wolf. As the region’s apex predator, stories are told how a pack of just three of these wolves could bring down even the largest bison. As ranching expanded across the region, cattle and swine joined bison as iconic hallmarks of the plains’ rustic landscape. Throughout this period, working dogs provided livestock protection and herded, while cats safeguarded grain stores by suppressing rodent populations. In recognition of this legendary ecosystem and its rich ranching heritage, we selected pork, beef, and bison for our Open Plains formulation – capturing the timeless ancestral prey and historic livestock that define the spirit of the plains.
